Updated September 2026. Mogadishu has a new nonstop connection to the Gulf. SalamAir officially began direct flights between Muscat International Airport (MCT) and Mogadishu Aden Adde International Airport (MGQ) on 3 September 2026.
The first nonstop Oman–Mogadishu route
SalamAir announced the route in February 2026 and inaugurated operations on 3 September. The airline says the service operates twice weekly and is the first-ever nonstop air link between Oman and Somalia’s capital.
At launch, SalamAir announced one-way fares from OMR 79.99. Fares are dynamic, so travellers should always check the airline’s live booking engine before making plans.
Why Muscat matters for travellers to Somalia
For years, many international visitors planned Mogadishu trips around major gateways such as Istanbul and Addis Ababa. Muscat now adds another practical option, especially for travellers coming from Oman, the Gulf, South Asia and parts of the Middle East and Asia that connect through SalamAir’s network.
SalamAir specifically describes the route as supporting business travel, family travel, trade and onward connections through Muscat. That makes the service relevant not only to tourists but also diaspora travellers, investors and short-stay visitors.
What visitors can do after arriving in Mogadishu
Aden Adde International Airport is the main international gateway for Mogadishu. Depending on your arrival time and confirmed operating plan, a short visit can focus on the city and coast, while longer stays can combine multiple experiences.
- Mogadishu Essentials for a focused one-day programme.
- Mogadishu Stopover for a short overnight stay.
- Mogadishu Signature for a longer city experience.
Can travellers connect through Muscat?
Yes, depending on origin, operating dates and ticket availability. SalamAir says the Mogadishu service provides onward connectivity through Muscat to selected destinations across the Middle East and Asia. Travellers should check whether their itinerary is issued as one protected ticket or as separate tickets, because baggage and missed-connection rules can differ.
Current fare example
SalamAir’s own fare page was showing Mogadishu–Muscat fares around USD 196 on selected September and October 2026 dates when this guide was updated. These are cached airline fares and can change at any time.
