In July 2026, The Guardian reported on Mogadishu’s growing café culture and the women building careers as baristas. The article profiled experienced barista and trainer Saabiriin Hassan and Beydan branch manager Yusra Abdifatahi, showing how the café sector is creating new professional opportunities and social spaces.
The report described Beydan as a growing pan-African coffee business with more than 10 branches and a workforce that includes a significant number of women. It also highlighted the role of social media: Hassan has built a large TikTok audience around coffee and barista culture.
