How to Travel to Somalia in 2026: Flights, eTA and Arrival Planning

Travelling to Somalia is becoming easier to plan, but it still rewards careful preparation. As of September 2026, Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport is connected to several regional and international hubs, while Somalia’s immigration system now requires foreign visitors to obtain an electronic travel authorisation before travel.

Where can you fly to Mogadishu from?

Current scheduled gateways include Istanbul, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Muscat, Entebbe, Djibouti and selected regional routes. Turkish Airlines links Istanbul and Mogadishu, Ethiopian Airlines serves Addis Ababa, several airlines connect Nairobi, Uganda Airlines serves Entebbe and SalamAir launched a new Muscat–Mogadishu service in September 2026. Flight schedules change, so travellers should confirm the operating date directly with the airline before paying for a fixed itinerary.

Somalia now uses an electronic travel authorisation

Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency says foreign visitors must apply online for an eTA before travelling. The official portal is etas.gov.so. The Somalia AIP also states that arriving passengers should hold a valid passport with at least six months’ validity from the intended date of departure and present a copy of the approved eTA on arrival.

What to arrange before your flight

Before departure, confirm your eTA, passport validity, accommodation, airport pickup and the exact programme for your first day. For international visitors, movement arrangements and route requirements can depend on nationality, destination and current local conditions. Tour in Somalia confirms the operating plan before the final quote so that transport, guiding and accommodation sit inside one coordinated itinerary.

Coming from Europe

For travellers starting in Europe, Istanbul is one of the most straightforward connecting gateways because it has a scheduled Mogadishu service. Addis Ababa, Nairobi and Muscat can also work as connecting hubs depending on origin city, airline availability and baggage rules. Avoid building a tight same-day connection until the full ticketing and transfer conditions are confirmed.

On arrival in Mogadishu

Keep your passport, eTA and accommodation details accessible. If your package includes airport reception, your local team will confirm the meeting point and transfer arrangement before departure. Arrival time can affect how much touring is practical on the first day, so our itineraries are built around the actual flight schedule rather than a generic timetable.

Plan the route before you book the flight

If your journey includes Mogadishu, Hargeisa, Laas Geel, Berbera, Puntland or a coastal extension, contact the operating team before locking in every domestic sector. We can help sequence the route around the flights that are actually operating for your dates.
