Mogadishu Hospitality in 2026: Hotels, New Openings and a Changing Visitor Economy

Mogadishu’s hospitality sector is changing quickly. New hotels, restaurants, cafés and event venues are appearing alongside established local properties, while international brands are beginning to look at the city as a future market.

A larger tourism and hospitality economy

Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism reports 2024 tourism-sector indicators including more than 125,000 international tourist and diaspora arrivals, 5,400+ hotel rooms in major cities and 142 registered tourism establishments. These figures are useful as a national baseline, not a guarantee of room supply in a particular neighbourhood or travel period.

Mogadishu Rotana

Rotana and Aleph Hospitality announced a five-star development near Aden Adde International Airport, planned with 321 hotel rooms and serviced apartments plus dining, spa, events and retail facilities. The project has been described as scheduled for completion in 2026. Travellers should check the property’s official opening status before trying to book.

New local properties

Samaan Suites says it is opening and accepting reservations in 2026, with suite accommodation, restaurant, gym and conference facilities. Amara Hotel is another airport-area property appearing in public hotel listings, aimed at business travellers and events.

Restaurants and international brands

The hospitality story is not only hotels. Galito’s opened its first Somalia location in Mogadishu in June 2026, another sign that local investors see demand for branded dining experiences. At the same time, independent Somali cafés and restaurants remain central to the city’s identity.

What visitors should look for in a hotel

Location, transfer arrangements, room type, meeting facilities, power/connectivity and the operating requirements of your itinerary all matter. Tour in Somalia confirms the hotel basis and room arrangement in the final quote rather than promising a property before availability is checked.
