Nairobi and Mogadishu offer two very different urban experiences within East Africa. Nairobi is a major regional aviation, business and safari hub. Mogadishu brings Indian Ocean coast, Somali culture, historic city areas and a travel experience that feels very different from the classic East Africa circuit.
Why combine the two cities?
The combination works well for travellers who want more than one side of East Africa. Nairobi can provide international connections, museums, restaurants and access to Kenya’s wider tourism network. Mogadishu can then become the coastal and cultural chapter of the journey.
A simple trip structure
Days 1–3: Nairobi. Use the city as your arrival hub and explore at a pace that works for your interests.
Day 4: Fly to Mogadishu. Allow enough time for airport formalities and transfer.
Days 5–6: Mogadishu. Build around city heritage, coast, food and local stories rather than trying to rush every stop.
Day 7: Return or continue. Depending on your flights, return via Nairobi or continue through another regional gateway.
Entry requirements are separate
Do not assume that entering Kenya automatically gives entry to Somalia. Foreign travellers should review Somalia’s current eTA requirements separately and check Kenya’s own entry requirements for their nationality.
Book flights before fixing every local detail
The international flight times determine how much can realistically fit on arrival and departure days. We prefer to receive confirmed flight details before finalising airport pickup, hotel timing and the daily route.
