Nairobi is one of the most useful East African gateways for travellers planning a trip to Mogadishu. Kenya Airways currently maintains a Nairobi–Mogadishu booking route, while other regional airline combinations may also be available depending on the date.
Flights from Nairobi to Mogadishu
Search using airport codes NBO for Nairobi and MGQ for Mogadishu. Schedules and fares move frequently, so use the airline’s own booking engine for the final flight rather than relying on an old travel blog.
Complete the Somalia eTA before travel
Somalia’s Electronic Travel Authorisation system applies to foreign-passport travellers. The official system was introduced in September 2025, and Somalia’s aviation information circular states that travellers should hold a valid eTA in advance of travel.
What happens after landing at MGQ?
Aden Adde International Airport is close to central Mogadishu, but arrival planning should still be coordinated in advance. For our guests, the useful details are the flight number, arrival time, nationality, hotel and confirmed local programme.
Do not plan a tight city schedule around an international arrival without allowing for immigration, baggage and pickup coordination.
How long should you stay?
A short visit can focus on Mogadishu itself, while a longer programme can add more time for coast, culture and additional destinations. Our package collection ranges from one-day Mogadishu programmes to longer multi-region journeys.
Can you combine Kenya and Somalia?
Yes. Many travellers can structure Nairobi as the regional hub and Mogadishu as the next destination. But the two countries have separate entry requirements and should be planned independently.
